Sinan Kıvrak graduated from the Department of Electronics Engineering at Erciyes University in 1996. He received his M.Sc. degree from Pamukkale University in 2000 and his Ph.D. degree from Dokuz Eylül University in 2008. His research areas include solar energy, battery control systems, unmanned vehicles, power electronics, and electric vehicles. He is known for his patented inventions and commercially developed products. In 2012, the fast alternator and test unit of the SOM missile were designed and produced under GAYDA Engineering Energy Company, founded by Kıvrak.
